CHARACTERISTICS OF STATISTICS

Statistics are numerically
expressed.
2.
Statistics are aggregate of
facts. A single fact like a single birth or a single accident cannot be
called statistics. A collection of facts like marks of all the students of a
class will be called statistics.

Statistics deals with the same
kind of observation i.e. homogenous not with the heterogeneous.
4.
Statistics deals with variable
not with constant.
5.
Statistics are numerically
expressed qualitative expression like poor, good, etc. are not statistics.
6.
Statistical laws are valid on the
averages or in the long run.
7.
The price of goods are affected
by the supply and demand conditions, Height of individuals are affected by
the height of their parents, climatic conditions of a country, nature of
diet.
8.
Statistics test the laws of other
science.
9.
Statistic are collected in a
systematic manner collection in haphazard manner cannot be accurate.
10.
The ages of husbands and their
wives at the time of marriage are comparable and can placed in relation to
each other. On the other hand, the heights of a person with their monthly
incomes have no relation with each other.
